Whistling Straits Essay

Whistling Straits Essay

Going on vacations is something that many people enjoy doing at all times of the year. It is important in my opinion for everyone to have a few days were they can relax and enjoy themselves. If people never took time to relax everyone would always be to stressed. This summer for my vacation because I am such a huge golf fan I when to the PGA Championship witch is like the super bowl of golf.

I have been to the PGA Championship one other time before when it was in Minneapolis but this time I had even less of a trip because it was right in Kohler Wisconsin just a few miles west of Sheboygan. On our first day of the trip we arrived and got into our hotel that had a perfect view of lake Michigan and it even had two floors witch was very cool to be able to have your own private room upstairs. The hotel also had a pizza and ice cream place were we could have close places to eat during the day. A few blocks away from our hotel was another even fancier hotel where all the players and PGA staff were staying therefore we decided to eat dinner there to see if we might see some of the golfers. As we were cutting through the lobby area of the hotel we were lucky to be able to see all five of the CBS sports golf announcers talking in the main section of the lobby. I then approached the announcers with my golf shirt hopping some of them would sign it. Not only did the announcers sign the shirt they began having a conversation with me. I told them were I was from, how much I golf, where I'm from, how I always watch them and so on and so on. Finally after the ten minute conversation with myself and the CBS announcers, Jim Nantz the most famous announcer who also does NFL and the NCAA basketball tournament asked me what days I was going to the championship and I said Wednesday and Thursday so he invited me into the T.V. both on Thursday. I was absolutely shocked and excepted his offer.

The Next day was Wednesday, the fist day I get to see the championship. As we got there much to our dismay it was raining so be had to stay in the clubhouse for about an hour but luckily the rain subsided and we then set of for the course. I bought a flag in the gift shop for some of the players to sign throughout the day and I got a lot of signatures form many of the best golfers and it was very interesting to see the golfers up close in person.

Now it is the day I have been waiting for its Thursday morning my last day of vacation and I am only a few hours away from going into the T.V. both with Jim Nantz. As we get to the course it is a beautiful day unlike the day before and I begin walking down to the T.V. booth. Once we arrived there there was a security guard blocking the door which Jim Nantz had already told would be there and Jim had said to tell them your story and they will let you in. There was only one problem, they didn't let us in. We wait there and wait there for something to happen and finally we see Jim Nantz coming out of the booth and I say 'Hay Mr. Nantz it's me Danny from the hotel". He gladly lets us into the booth and we are now safely inside. Now you are probably thinking that the T.V. booth is really nice and high tech but the truth is it is actually very dark and dirty witch was interesting because the T.V. desk is so nice and clean and its surrounded by this dump of the rest of the room. It was very cool to be able to listen to the producers and announcers live in action and it was also comical because the announcers are just relaxed and in T-shirts but when they are about to go live everyone rushes and gets them on suites and cleans up the room before they are shown. After the tournament Jim Nantz gave me his tie and a signed copy of his book and we left the course with memories that will never be forgotten.

There are many things that give us stress in our lives and a vacation is a way to just forget about all the stress and relax. Although the vacations are fun it is always nice to finally arrive home.

  1. Good essay Dan! It was very well written and easily enjoyable. In your thesis you stated that everyone should be able to have a vacation or time to relax...you should probably make sure that the rest of your essay is on that topic! Other than that, you had good vocabulary, nice thoughts, and it was interesting! Nicely done.(:

  2. I agree with Megan. Your thesis should talk more about your golfing vacation and experiences. Also, I would consider proof reading once more because there were a few spelling mistakes. Overall that sounds really cool and it was well written.
