Many People have there own opinions towards other people and especially those people who have a very important impact on the country. One person in my opinion that has been very wrongly judged is one of my favorite presidents, president George W. Bush. I have recently started reading a book called Decision Points, a book written by president Bush himself. The book describes his decision making during his presidency as to why he made some of the decisions he made and if you read the book I truly think you will have a different opinion on the 43rd president than many of you may currently have.
President bush was never a person who was a good public speaker. That fact I agree with but because he was not as good of a speaker as he could have been he got a reputation of not being particularly smart. That is where people get it wrong. Mr. Bush was a person who went to both Yale and Harvard Colleges. He is not a dumb human being. When the 2000 presidential election came to a close everyone knew that the election was going to come down to the end. Although Bush had beaten Former vice president Al Gore he had somewhat of a chip on his shoulder. People remember Al Gore because of the close race therefore in my opinion throughout Bushes presidency he was always being compared to Mr. Gore. The presidents defining moment as president came on the morning on the 9/11 attacks. When the second plane had hit the Twin towers the president had been informed on the matter by one of his secret service men while he was in a classroom in Florida. He had to make a important decision as to weather he should leave the classroom to attend to the Attacked country or stay calm in the classroom until reading lesion was over in order to not cause panic. The president choose to stay. That is a decision that was very hard to make but I commend him for doing the right thing for the children. When the lesson was over the president first tied to get into contact with the currant New York Mayor of the time Rudy Giuliani. Yet because of the Mayors close encounter with the damage he could not get phone reception. Once the president hung up he refused to panic. Mr. bush was able to stop the airports from letting out planes to further risk another attack and send many Americans to there homes to ensure the safety of the country. Although I was 5 years old at the time of the attacks and did not particularly understand what had happened. I knew everything was going to be o.k. and when the president stood over the ruble of the buildings the next morning I knew this was the man in power.
In the days after the attacks the country was beginning to get back to there everyday lives but people were still afraid that the Iraq tourists could still be up to yet another terrist plot. Therefore the president decided to go to war with Iraq. Many people thought the president went to war to early after the country had just been under attack. Yet I think it was the right thing to do in order to not risk another attack. Again even though people disagreed with the decision the decision was a decision that ensured the Americans safety.
In the winter of 2004 George W. Bush did not follow in the footsteps of his formal presidential father and was elected to a second term by beating Massachusetts Senator John Kerry. As his second term began the Iraq terrists were still a threat therefore causing the president to keep the war in continuation throughout the end of his presidency. The last situation that occurred near the end of the Bush administration was the steeply falling economy. Many people believe that bushes tax cuts that were made at the beginning of his presidency may have caused the resection a few years latter but there are two reasons why that is not true. For one the tax cuts helped the economy greatly throughout the years before 2008 and the tax cuts were hardly even the reason why the economy took such as harsh beating in 2008. The downfall was more based of the fact of the Wall Street bankers were stealing to much of the Americans Funds. In which was not in control of the president.
As time goes on I think people will begin to realize the good decisions of the Bush era. I truly think that you should read the book Decision points and get the full behind the scenes scoop. It is a very good book to read and it will change your opinions as how you look at the 43rd president of the United States.
