Harrison Bergeron

In our society people judge each other every day as to how rich people are, how successful people are , or whatever it may be. Most people in their opinion believe that the judging should be stopped as do I, yet some country leaders take a different kind of approach than most in order to make us all equal.
Countries all over the world have had times that in which they may have been or even still are communist countries. In the story ''Harrison Bergeron'' the main character, George is in a country that believes that everyone should have the same intelligence, athletic ability and so on. In order to keep the country that way, the government forces its citizens to wear things they call handicaps. Some handicaps that the people have to wear include things like wearing weights on peoples backs if they are fast or devices that set off ringing sounds through an ear piece of people with a high intelligence in order to disallow them to think.
In the real world of today there are no countries that have come up with such a cruel idea to make their country more equal yet in some countries there are dictators that will do anything to have their country in the state that they want it to be in. Myself being an American citizen I do not ever have to worry about if my country will ever become a communist country and having the right to think that is just one of the many reasons why I am thankful to be an American. Every day millions of people wake up in the morning wondering what their government might do to change their country. They know that even though they may dislike the governments decisions they know that they do not have any right to stop their powerful leaders and everyday I think of how lucky I am to not be in their position.
All Americans have likes and dislikes about the United States. Whether you are democratic or Republican I hope that after reading this essay you will think to yourself every time you may not agree with a bill that is passed to not be discouraged but to think about how much worse your country could be. If the people of the United States would stop discussing the negatives of the American government and begin to think of the positives, we as a country will not be so focused about what we have done wrong and we will be allowed to again reminisce about the things we have done to make America great and be able to think of even more ways to make it greater.
